The Association for New Canadians launches a video celebration of Black History Month this Friday.

Hosted by Barb Walsh, the ANC’s advisor for Black-centric programming, the one-hour video highlights local Black advocates, artists and entrepreneurs and gives space for people to discuss their experiences being Black in Newfoundland and Labrador.

Guests include:

  • Yaw Antwi-Adjei (1949 Barbershop)
  • Farai Gwasira (musician King Sway)
  • Zainab Jerrett (We Care Foundation/Tombolo Multicultural Festival)
  • Julius Paare Joseph (musician Zuba 4000kg)
  • Quensley Okanaya (Apeke Couture)

  • ANC Youth Black Voices Collective (Gonzaga High students – Afro dance)

The video also includes two segments from November’s IDEAS event. Dr. Bolu Ognumyemi discusses resume whitening and artist Bushra Junaid shares information on the history of slavery in Newfoundland and Labrador.
