Shifting: Reflections on the Migration Experience
The Association for New Canadians and The Rooms are partnering to present the work of six artists in an exhibition that will be presented at The Rooms and two other venues in the province over 2023/2024. This exhibition seeks to highlight the professional art practices of traditionally underrepresented visual artists who were not born in Canada but now call Newfoundland and Labrador home. The exhibition aims to share immigration experiences and the importance of challenging injustice, marginalization, racism and anti-racism.
Artists selected must be able to submit a completed artwork to The Rooms by March 24th, 2023. Payment of artist fees, shipping, the printing of digital works for exhibition, framing, and display strategies will be arranged by The Rooms in consultation with the artist. Artists may submit existing artwork or propose to make a new one specifically for this project. To facilitate shipping to smaller regional venues, smaller scale artworks (to a max of approx. 60 cm x 60 cm) may be given priority.
Selected artists will receive an artist fee of $800.00 per exhibition venue (max $2400.00). A small materials budget (under $500) may also be available for artists wishing to make new works.
