Nick Whalen, Member of Parliament, St. John’s East visited the Association for New Canadians’ ESL Training Centre on Tuesday December 18 to announce funding for the ANC’s Skills for Change Program, a targeted training and employment program designed to support visible minority refugee women in acquiring the knowledge and skills to support their labour market attachment.

MP Whalen was welcomed by ANC Board of Directors’ Chair Carol MacDonald and Executive Director Megan Morris. Eileen Kelly-Freake, Director of Employment Programs and Career Services, explained the ANC’s plans for the program while ESL Team Lead, Grace Okwera and Parks Canada employee Victoria Jalloh, highlighted how such a program would have benefited them when they first arrived in the province.
