Summer Programs for Newcomer Children
October 05, 2016
During this past summer, the ANC’s SWIS Team delivered two summer programs to over 85 newcomer children living in St. John’s. As part of the programming, the SWIS Team was happy to host a number of guest speakers and presenters, including:
• Ticker Tom from Eastern Health;
• The East Rock Crew;
• As well as representatives from:
o The Canadian Cancer Society’s SunSense Program; and,
o The Conservation Corps Newfoundland and Labrador’s Green Team.
We would like to express our sincerest gratitude to the various funders that made this possible, including the Whiteway Lodge - Grand Lodge of Ancient Free and Accepted Masons of Newfoundland and Labrador.
We would also like to thank the NL English School District (who let us avail of Bishop Abraham Elementary and St. Andrew’s Elementary) for supporting this important programming.
Finally, we want to send a big thanks to the hard-working staff and volunteers who assisted young newcomers as they prepared for the school year. Your efforts are truly appreciated and have gone a long way towards facilitating newcomer access to community resources and supporting their integration.
