The ANC is seeking donations of gently-used sports equipment for an event for newcomer families in June. Specifically, we are looking for:
Please drop off your donations to the ANC's Main Office located at 144 Military Road or the ANC's ESL Training Centre at 10 Smithville Crescent.

On Friday, June 3rd, clients attending the ANC’s ESL Training Centre participated in a Container Gardening Workshop with Lester's Farm Market. Participants had the opportunity to learn how to plant a number of common herbs and vegetables to take home and enjoy with their families. The event was very popular and we would like to sincerely thank Susan with Lester’s Farm Market for delivering a great workshop!

After surviving their first winter on the west coast of Newfoundland, Mohammed Almaidani, his wife and two infant children are settled into their new home in Corner Brook, and picking up life where it left off for the refugee family.
In his early 30s, Almaidani has 17 years experience as a barber, and it didn't take long for him to get back behind the chair in his new home town.

The ANC is delighted to partner with the Conservation Corps Newfoundland and Labrador to provide a team of four individuals (ages 16-30) with the opportunity to learn about different cultural practices and skills from around the world. As part of this project, students will engage various newcomers in order to exchange knowledge related to gardening, painting, and craft-making

The outpouring of support for displaced Fort McMurray residents isn't limited to just those who have long-standing connections to the northern Alberta community.
On Thursday, several newly arrived families from Syria came to a CBC live broadcast to show support — and pass along some money they had raised for the cause to the Red Cross.

On May 4th, the ANC Young Adult’s Group visited Rotary Sunshine Park with volunteers from the MUN Med Gateway Program and learned basic archery skills from staff with the City of St. John's Recreation Department. A big thanks to everyone that facilitated this fantastic event – everyone in attendance had a great time!

A big thank you to Lisa Gillam and the staff at Munchkin Music Factory for hosting a music event with some newly-arrived Syrian mothers and their children. It was an excellent opportunity to engage children’s language learning through music and everyone in attendance had a wonderful time!
We would also like to thank a local Girl Guide group for baking us some delicious treats for the event!
