Participants in the ANC’s Women’s Group enjoyed a visit to Pippy Park this week. We would like to send our sincerest thanks to Alex and Lydia with Friends of Pippy Park for providing attendees with a guided tour of the park and hosting a relaxing barbeque for everyone!

Newcomers attending the ANC’s ESL Training Centre visited H&E Williams Dairy Farm in the Goulds this week. This was a fantastic opportunity for everyone in attendance to learn about dairy farming in the province, especially given that the participants had experience as farmers before arriving in Canada.
We would like to sincerely thank Hector Williams and the team at H&E Williams Dairy Farm for being so accommodating as well as providing newcomers with a tour of the facility and answering their questions!

On Monday, August 22nd, participants in the ANC’s Men’s Group visited Powers Pond in Mount Pearl for an evening of canoeing. Everyone in attendance had a great time and we would like to thank the folks at Powers Pond for being so accommodating!

The Pathways to Prosperity, in partnership with the Atlantic Region Association of Immigrant Serving Agencies (ARAISA) and the Association for New Canadians (ANC), will be hosting a workshop on the Attraction, Retention, and Integration of Immigrants in Smaller Communities on October 7, 2016 at the Sheraton Hotel in St. John's

On Wednesday, August 17, the ANC’s Green Team held a Cross-Stitching Workshop for newcomers attending the ANC’s ESL Training Centre. The workshop was based on the results of surveys and interviews conducted by members of the Green Team with newly arrived refugees to the province.
It provided participants with an opportunity to learn cross-stitching from a student attending the Training Centre, as well as members of the Green Team and ANC staff. Everyone in attendance had a fantastic time and are already looking forward to learning more arts and craft skills from fellow newcomers!

Doctor touched by 'breathtaking' Gander arrival of Syrian refugees
A doctor working part-time in Gander had an unexpected and emotional moment at the town's airport in the early morning hours of Aug. 12, as he found himself in the midst of a large gathering to welcome the second Syrian refugee family to the community.

On Tuesday, August 2, the ANC’s Green Team held an Arts and Crafts Showcase at the ANC’s ESL Training Centre. The showcase was based on the results of surveys and interviews conducted by members of the Green Team with newcomers to the province. Showcase participants and guests were excited to have the opportunity to learn about various arts and crafts from around the world!
