With support from the Office of Immigration and Multiculturalism, AES, the Association for New Canadians hosted an "ANC Global Tour" event on Friday, March 21st, 2014 in honor of Canadian Multiculturalism Week 2014. For this public event, ANC clients created a series of information booths showcasing their particular culture and/or country of origin. Booths displayed the diversity of cultures represented throughout the St. John’s CMA and included historical and cultural information, art, traditional clothing, flags, music, and food. In addition, a talent and fashion show highlighted the unique artistic practices and traditional dress of the many diverse cultures represented throughout the St. John's CMA.

On March 18th, the Association for New Canadians, in partnership with Enactus, the MUN Medical Gateway Program, and St. Mark’s Church, offered a Community Kitchen to 20 Women's Group participants. The Association for New Canadians' Men's Group hosted a Community Kitchen event with the assistance of volunteers from Memorial University's School of Medicine. Participants baked cakes and had the opportunity to speak with volunteers about their experiences with food and cooking in their countries of origin, as well as since their arrival in Canada. The ANC's Cooking Class teaches newcomer men basic cooking and food preparation techniques, how to navigate the supermarket, Canadian food substitutions for overseas recipes, as well as how to read labels and directions. Participants are also taught how to clean kitchen appliances and about proper storage of food. The Association for New Canadians' Bridget Foster was awarded the Order of Newfoundland and Labrador by Premier Tom Marshall on Friday, February 7, 2014. The award is the highest honour bestowed by the province upon its citizens, and recognizes individuals who have demonstrated excellence and achievement in any field of endeavour benefiting in an outstanding manner Newfoundland and Labrador and its residents. Ms. Foster was recognized for over 30 years of service in the immigration/settlement sector. Indeed, Bridget's formidable drive and dedication has been a cornerstone in building immigration policies and programs that enable immigrants and refugees to become fully engaged Canadian citizens across Newfoundland and Labrador...
