Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says his government won't fulfil its campaign pledge to bring 25,000 refugees to Canada by the end of the year, but justified the delay by saying it is more important to "make sure it's done right."

On Monday, November 16th, the Association for New Canadians co-hosted a Canadian Race Relations "Our Canada" workshop as part of a Canada-wide initiative.
The "Our Canada" full-day workshop, directed toward professionals who are leading diversity and inclusion initiatives, was designed to build knowledge of faith-related situations in the workplace or community and increase the ability of stakeholders to manage situations arising out of conflicting religious practices and cultural values.
The event was at full capacity and included leaders from faith-based organizations, various human resources managers, and stakeholders in the not-for-profit sector...

On Friday, November 13th, clients and staff of the Association for New Canadians attended the Craft Council of Newfoundland and Labrador’s Christmas Craft Fair. Everyone in attendance was given an opportunity to view an array of crafts by professional craft makers and designers from all over the province.

On Thursday, November 12th, Bhutanese clients of the Association for New Canadians treated fellow clients, staff, volunteers and other community members to a Deepawali celebration at the ANC’s ESL Training Centre.
Everyone in attendance enjoyed a number of traditional dances, singing, delicious food, and even some comedy! On Monday, November 2, 2015, the Association for New Canadians hosted a Clothing Market for clients at its ESL Training Centre. Everyone in attendance was given the opportunity to choose from an array of clothes and other items that were donated to the Association by extremely generous community members – we were even given some homemade items, including mittens and hats just in time for winter. On Wednesday, October 7, Premier Paul Davis officially launched the Express Entry Skilled Worker Category, under the Newfoundland and Labrador Provincial Nominee Program (PNP). As part of the announcement, the Association was pleased to welcome, among others, the Honourable Clyde Jackman, Minister of Advanced Education and Skills to its AXIS Career Services Centre. Under this new immigration category, 550 annual Express Entry nominations will be added to an additional 500 annual nominations under the existing PNP, helping to meet the goals of the province’s new population growth strategy: Live Here, Work Here, Belong Here, A Population Growth Strategy for Newfoundland and Labrador, 2015-2025...

The Association for New Canadians held a number of activities this week in celebration of Halloween. First, on Wednesday, October 28, clients of the Association’s ESL Training Centre carved pumpkins for a pumpkin carving contest.
In addition, on Thursday, October 29, children from the Association’s International Friends Daycare Centre went trick-or-treating around the ESL Training Centre to show off their great costumes. To finish off the day, clients and staff took part in a sing along (including some jingles to get ready for Christmas), voted for their favorite pumpkin, and enjoyed some Halloween cake and snacks.
