Many newcomers to Newfoundland and Labrador have gripping stories to tell, but might not have the language skills to reach most of the province.
The Association for New Canadians is hoping to fix that, and bring those stories to life in a new photography exhibition this year. The group is launching a new project for refugees to the province, pairing them with a camera as well as photography instruction.

The ANC would like to express our sincere thanks to the residents of Newfoundland and Labrador who have so generously contributed to our Private Sponsorship of Refugees Fund.
This fund has been established to support those who wish to sponsor a family member, friend or loved one, but who do not have the financial resources to do so. The fund will also be used to assist Co-Sponsors with their efforts to meet the demands of sponsorship. All funds in this trust go directly towards costs of sponsoring a refugee/refugee family in Newfoundland and Labrador.
As of March 30, 2016, community members have donated a total of $104,113 to our Private Sponsorship of Refugees Fund!
We are also pleased to announce that as of March 30, 2016, a total of $483,610 has been raised by community groups who have decided to go forward with private sponsorships!
If you would like more information on sponsoring a refugee or donating to our sponsorship fund, please contact Ken Walsh at firstname.lastname@example.org...

On Saturday, March 19th, in celebration of Multiculturalism Week in Newfoundland and Labrador, and in collaboration with the Spruce Hill Church Group, the ANC delivered a “Good Friends, Good Food” event for refugee women. The event provided participants with an opportunity to learn how to cook with local ingredients (e.g., blueberries, cod, etc.) and provided Canadian-born participants with a chance to learn how to prepare a number of traditional Syrian dishes. The final culminating activity involved the women from Spruce Hill Church and the Syrian women and their children spending the day together cooking, eating, learning from each other, and building a community that is stronger through diversity and inclusivity.

On Wednesday, March 9th, the ANC hosted the first installment in a series of information workshops called “Your Community to Enjoy.” The event provided newly-arrived refugee families with presentations designed to expand upon the settlement services offered by the ANC, including information on the culture of safety, protection, and human rights in Canada, as well as the Education and Support for Employment (EASE) Program delivered by the ANC.
We would like to thank representatives from the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary, Human Rights Commission, and Muslim Association of Newfoundland and Labrador for presenting at this event.
We would also like to extend our sincerest thanks to:
• Johnson & Johnson for generously donating care packages containing various essentials (soap, shampoo, etc.) for each family in attendance; and,
• The Some Warm Welcome Project and the Bee Cave Public Library in Bee Cave, Texas, for providing over 100 hand-knitted items, all affixed with a "Welcome to Canada" message, for everyone in attendance.
